Reiki Training

Reiki is a form of alternative therapy commonly referred to as energy healing. It emerged in Japan in the late 1800s and involves the transfer of universal energy from the practitioner’s palms. Individuals interested in learning Reiki typically undergo a series of training and attunements.

There are traditionally three levels or degrees of Reiki training:

Reiki Level 1 (Shoden – Beginner Teaching)

Purpose: Introduces students to Reiki energy, its history, principles, and basic hands-on healing techniques. After this level, a practitioner can perform Reiki on themselves and others.

Content: The history of Reiki, the five Reiki principles, understanding the chakras, and the basic hand positions for treatment.

Attunement: The student receives an attunement (or initiation) that opens their energy channels to connect to the universal energy.

Reiki Level 2 (Okuden – Inner Teachings)

Purpose: This level delves deeper into Reiki energy and introduces distance healing. Practitioners can send energy across space and time (e.g., to someone in another location).

Content: Introduction to Reiki symbols and their uses, learning distant healing techniques, and deepening the understanding of energy work.

Attunement: Further attunement to increase the capacity to channel the Reiki energy.

Reiki Level 3 (Shinpiden – Mystery Teachings) / Master Level

Purpose: This is often split into two parts: the advanced Reiki training and the Reiki Master training. The former deepens one’s understanding of the energy, while the latter prepares the student to teach and attune others.

Content: Learning additional symbols, techniques to strengthen the energy, meditation practices, and teaching methods.

Attunement: The final attunement further increases the capacity to channel the Reiki energy and prepares the practitioner to initiate others.

Reiki Master Teacher (Optional in some lineages)

Purpose: For those who want to teach Reiki to others and further their own spiritual development.

Content: Advanced teaching techniques, deepening personal practice, and guidance on setting up a practice.
